A story of hope

Rivaldo’s story — and why it matters

Rivaldo lost his mother when he was just five years old and went to live at the orphanage where Erin and Clarisa serve. There, he was loved and cared for. He learned about God’s love, learned English, and received spiritual guidance and encouragement that helped shape his life.

Along his journey he discovered a passion for teaching English. Today, he is pursuing that passion at a quality school in Maputo. It has been a privilege over the years, to be part of Rivaldo’s journey and to see the young boy he was grow into the man he is today despite setbacks and obstacles. We keep in touch with him. His life is an encouragement and inspiration.

Reflecting on his journey, Rivaldo says:

“Growing up in an orphanage was not always easy, but it shaped me into the person I am today. It taught me the importance of gratitude, resilience, love, faith, and helping others. My journey has had challenges, but it has also been filled with people who showed me kindness, support, and love.”

One of Rivaldo’s greatest dreams is to return to the orphanage where he spent so many years—not as a child in need of care, but as someone who can offer care and encouragement to the next generation.

In his words, he wants to “give back to the place that raised me and contributed to the person I am today.”
Your gifts makes stories like Rivaldo’s possible — for children, widows and members of their  communities.
